When I first met with Maddie, friend and owner of Flourish Floral Artistry & Design, we sat down at my dining room table and brainstormed about what we wanted this styled wedding shoot to be. With so many wedding trends these days, we wanted to take it back to the basics. With both of us having an earthy style that reflects in her floral designs and my photography, we felt that having a nature inspired yet timeless theme was exactly what we were looking for. Not only this, but we wanted to choose a color scheme that isn't always the most popular choice for weddings. Steering clear of minty greens, soft pinks, and all the other color palettes that are hard to resist... we went with YELLOW! Yup, one of my least favorite colors. But, I think there are amazing ways of using this color! Our goal was to use this unwanted color and make you swoon over it! Well, I can now confidently say, I LOVE yellow. Not only was this color palette refreshing to photograph, it made this February day look like a spring time wedding! Can you believe this was shot in February!? These bold golden hues made everything pop and come to life.
Maddie of Flourish Floral Artistry and Design used classic yellow roses for the main flower in all of her design. I think with so many different flowers out there, the rose (especially a yellow rose!) can be over looked. Well, I think its safe to say that Maddie's floral designs for this shoot looked incredible. When I saw the draped floral arbor it literally took my breath away!! Can every bride PLEASE have one of these for their ceremony site!? I also loved how Maddie took use of the small holes at the back of the furnace. She placed small floral arrangements in each of them. It was like there was always meant to be beautiful flowers in those small quaint spaces.
We chose Furnace Town in Snow Hill, MD as our backdrop for this styled shoot. By keeping our color palette simple with golden hues, we knew that the red brick on this early 19th century Furnace was going to be the perfect compliment. Furnace Town remains one of my favorite local venues for weddings on the Eastern Shore. Surrounded by nature and so many historic structures and buildings dating back to the 1830's, you have endless opportunities for ceremony location, cocktail hour, and the reception. No matter where you are on the grounds, you are bound to have a picturesque backdrop to your photos.
To set the stage, we had local artist and Graphic designer Andreea Russo create an invitation suite as well as a few other pieces. Andreea is incredibly talented! Hand painted and designed herself, she made these invitations delicate with floral watercolor accents paired with a romantic script.
Bringing in the final details was wedding planner, Jessica Evans. Rentals and important details, like the amazing antique platter I used to show off the invitations, were so important for bringing this styled shoot full circle. Our intimate sweetheart table was our second focal point at the base of the furnace. We kept our look cohesive with everything else, timeless and romantic.
Lastly, and certainly one of the most import aspects of the day!! Was our behind the scenes crew and good looking models! None of this would have come together without you guys! Anna and Mitch came all the way from Baltimore for this shoot and I am SO thankful. Talk about two good looking human beings! You made my job a piece of cake and are the cutest couple! Anna's hair was done by local hair stylist Stacy Leigh and make up was done by MaryKay makeup artist Chloe Hackett. Together these two created a cohesive look that was soft, romantic, and most importantly, timeless.
I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed shooting them! And if you are a future bride planning your wedding, hopefully you can be inspired by these in some way for your own big day!
